Last week, President Obama reaffirmed his support for the Employee Free Choice Act. “The scales have been tilted to make it really hard to form a union,” he told a town hall meeting. The Employee Free Choice Act will stop “the monkey business that’s done right now to prevent” workers from having a union.

Setting the stage for comprehensive health care reform. Funding for rebuilding infrastructure and family-supporting jobs. Aid to state and local governments so they can avoid layoffs and continue to provide essential services. Moves toward stronger job safety and health rules. Americans voted for change in November. In two new TV ads, workers say now it’s time for change in the workplace—health care, fair wages, job security and the Employee Free Choice Act give them the chance for that change. The ads, from American Rights at Work, stress that restoring workers’ freedom to form unions and bargain for better pay, benefits and security is crucial to make the economy work for all.

After parroting the party line for so long, that seemed to come as shock to Cavuto.

Working families across the country have a chance to put a filibuster-proof, pro-worker, 60-vote majority in the Senate on Election Day. That would end the stranglehold a minority of anti-worker senators has used to block the Employee Free Choice Act, fair pay legislation, economic recovery for working families and more. Working with ActBlue, the AFL-CIO is helping progressive Senate candidates raise the resources they need to win.

John McCain is giving us “straight talk”—out of both sides of his mouth when it comes reining in Wall Street greed and supporting George Bush. McCain, who has always touted his reputation as a “deregulator,” now claims he wants to clamp down on Wall Street. He says, “I’m not George Bush,” but he doesn’t mention his 90 percent pro-Bush voting record. Flip-flops aren’t just for feet anymore.

Two years after voting to join AFSCME, 50 workers at Heartland Human Services in Effingham, Ill., are being locked out after their employer refused to bargain a fair contract, even refusing to meet with a federal mediator. AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka says if the Employee Free Choice Act were law, employers like Heartland would face mandatory arbitration if they did not bargain seriously with workers’ unions.
